Kumasi Polytechnic Students Angry With Authorities |
It has come to the knowledge of The Chronicle that the students are unable to go to the Information Communication Technology (ICT) Laboratory for their practical lessons, in the face of the availability of a power generating plant, which service the students have paid for.
Narrating their sad story to The Chronicle, the irate students said when the school experiences power outages the standby plants provide lights for the evening classes, which last for only three hours, after which the campus is plunged into total darkness.
"The bad news is that examinations are few weeks away, and the administration has not been able to avert this looming danger. We wrote our middle semester examination without any standby lights, and that was a terrible experience, since students had piles of handouts and notes to go through," they complained.
The enraged students have also complained about the inability of the management to install the wireless internet service on campus, even though they have paid GH¢60 per student per year, as fees to access to the internet to facilitate research assignments and other relevant activities.
In the absence of the internet service for the past three years, the students have asked the K-Poly administration to refund their monies, but to no avail.
But, the Rector, Professor Nicholas Nichodemus Nana Nsowah-Nuamah, told The Chronicle in a telephone conversation that a number of blocks had been provided with lights to help students learn when there is a blackout. "It is only the Creative art and B-Tech blocks which don't have lights when there is blackout," he stated.
He indicated, however, that the management had awarded the installation of the internet wireless service on contract.
