UG Faculty Selected to Attend Lindau Laureate Meeting

Dr. Patrick Kobina Arthur, a lecturer at the Department of Biochemistry, Cell and Molecular Biology will be attending the 63rd Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting, in Lindau Germany this summer.

Dr. Arthur has been nominated by the Global Young Academy to join the elite group of 625 international young undergraduate and graduate researchers and scientists from 78 countries. The participants will meet 34 Nobel Laureate winners between June 30 and July 5, 2013, to exchange knowledge and ideas, share their enthusiasm for Science and establish new contacts.

The scientific programme, dedicated to the Nobel Prize discipline of chemistry, will comprise lectures, discussion sessions, master classes and panel discussions. Among the main topics to be discussed are Green Chemistry as well as biochemical processes and structures. The meeting offers a scientific experience of the highest standards and brings together the most esteemed scientists from all over the world.

Dr. Patrick Kobina Arthur obtained his PhD in Biochemistry at the University of Goettingen, Germany where he studied the process of mRNA localization in Germ Cells. His current research at the University of Ghana is on drug discovery to control drug resistant infectious diseases. He says, “I hope to gain unique insights from the vast experience of the over 30 Nobel Laureates attending this meeting and I also hope to network with scientists from around the world”.

Over 20000 young researchers belonging to blossoming scientific elite of their respective countries each went through a rigorous multi-stage international selection process and Dr. Arthur emerged as one of the best.
