University ranking
is becoming a ‘big deal’ to higher education providers the world over
and Ghana in particular. This is because, aside the prestige that goes
with knowing that you are doing great as an institution, it informs
greatly decision prospective students make on choice of institution.
Currently, ranking results used in Ghana are
those from Webometrics or 4icu, all international bodies. However,
whiles some of the ranking criteria are virtually unknown to the
institutions being ranked, most of their goals are also inconsistent
with the expectations of the public. To help streamline these, VCG
directed through its secretariat that, quality assurance units of all
five (5) public universities in Ghana to meet and develop criteria for
ranking in Ghana.
In response to the call, quality assurance
units are meeting at SMAYAK Hotel at Apam for a two day session. The two
day meeting would among others be used to share activities to ensure
quality on all campuses and also fashion out criteria for ranking
Ghanaian Universities.
