UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA DONATES MEDICAL ITEMS TO UEW

The University of Virginia, Charlottesville, USA through its Sister City programme with Winneba on Thursday January 17, 2013 donated medical items to the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) to help improve the services of the University Clinic and to  establish a good relationship between the two universities.
The medical items consisted of  an electrical bed and mattress, isolation cover gowns, stents, sodium chloride, injections, endozime  sponges , huggies , syringes, detergents, a hospital chair and stabilization devices.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Nii Ephraim who made the donation on behalf of the Effutu Assembly said the donation had been made possible through the instrumentation of Nana Acheampong Ghartey, the coordinator of the Winneba Charlottesville Sister City Commission abroad. According to Hon. Nii Ephraim the donation forms part of efforts of the Sister City Commission to improve upon medical facilities in Winneba. 

Receiving the items on behalf of UEW, the Dean of the Faculty of Science Education, Prof. Amedeker thanked them for the donation and promised that the items would be protected and put into good use. He was hopeful the relation between the University of Virginia and Effutu Municipality would benefit UEW and the entire Effutu Municipality.

Representing the University of Virginia were members of the Sister City Commission comprising Mr. Kwame Nkrumah, Obaatan Armah-Sekum, Obaatan Kweku Baiden, Winneba, the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Kofi Kussachin and the Presiding Member of the Effutu Municipal Assembly, Rev. Eldad Bonney.

Present were the Medical Officer in charge of UEW Clinic, Dr. E K Kwakyi, Deputy Registrar, Division of Operations, Mr. Abedi Boafo, Director, Office of International Relations, Dr. Ofosu Kusi, Senior Accountant, Mr. Bruno Chirani, Deputy Finance Officer, Snr. Assistant Registrar, Employee Relations Unit Mr. Andy Agordah, and the Administrator UEW Clinic, Mr. Andoh Appiah.
