The Student Research Day provided opportunity for students to showcase their research projects they had undertaken as part of the DWC Applied Research Skills course.

Dr. Nasser Nassiri, CIS Chair at the college, inaugurated this student conference by giving an enthralling keynote address on the state-of-the-art topic on Human Computer Interaction System. Then the final-year students from the majors of Business and Computer and Information Science presented their papers and displayed their posters which were themed across diverse and relevant topics such as cyber bullying, Internet addiction, success and failure factors of m-government projects, healthy lifestyle, social media tools, high sales targets in banking sectors, Blended Learning, Learning by Doing for Network Engineering students, iPads on children’s learning and many more.
These presentations and papers were assessed by a distinguished evaluation panel with the best papers selected on the basis of parameters such as originality of concept, creativity in identifying research objectives, research methods used analytical skills and quality of discussions, recommendations and conclusions.
"The Research Day provides the students with an authentic way of learning the research and methodologies course. It also helps them to emerge as successful researchers even at an early undergraduate level; 18 student papers were presented and the best papers will be submitted to international conferences and published," Dr. Nassiri said.
Dr. Amala Rajan, DWC CIS faculty and event organiser, said: "We at Dubai Women’s College have adopted the mini-conference approach, a Learning by Doing model, to teach the Applied Research Skills course where students learn to conduct and produce professional level research reports in a phased manner. The research day conducted towards the end of the course not only helps the students to present their research findings in a professional manner, but also prepares them to face real conferences."
