THE Tanzania Food and Drugs Authority (TFDA) donated 100 desks worth 17m/- aimed at improving education provision in primary schools.

Speaking at the handover, TFDA Executive Director, Mr Hiiti Sillo, said the desks would help to improve education in two primary schools.

"TFDA recognises that education is the most important tool in the fight against challenges to human development in the world," Mr Sillo said. He said the desks would be used in two primary schools, which are Makuburi and Makuburi Jeshini, which would get 40 and 60 desks, respectively.

Mr Sillo added that the desks would also go a long way to motivating pupils to excel in their exams. He said the year 2013 was a landmark for TFDA because it was marking ten years since its establishment, which prompted them to make a contribution to encourage students in their studies.

"This handover of the 100 desks to the two primary schools is part of celebrations to mark TFDA's 10 years of existence," he noted. He further added that TFDA had also donated 600,000/- for repair of the floor in one classroom at Makuburi Jeshini Primary School, which was in very bad shape.

For her part, Makuburi Primary School headteacher, Ms Grace Kado, said the desks would help to improve the learning capacity of the students where before they usined one desk for three up to four pupils. She asked other stakeholders to support her school because it was facing a number of challenges.
