A REGIONAL court in Tanzania sentenced a tuition and Madrasa teacher to 28 years imprisonment after finding him guilty of defiling a nine-year-old girl.
In a judgment read by George Kazi, the Registrar of the Zanzibar High Court on Tuesday, a man named Yussuf Mohammed Yussuf was sentenced after the court convicted him of defiling the young girl who happened to be his student.
It was heard during the hearing that Yussuf, a married man, started sexually abusing his student in 2011 by retaining the girl in the class while her colleagues go home, "then the man provides the young girl with sweets and little money."
It was said that medical examinations proved that there had been scratches indicating frequent penetration in the anus of the young girl who mentioned that the perpetrator used to sodomize her.
Parents of the victim and the wife of Yussuf were present during the verdict, as other listeners condemned the increasing abuse on children in the islands.
Meanwhile, the murder case involving Omar Musa Makame who is being accused of killing a Roman Catholic Priest, Evaristus Mushi, 51, has been adjourned to October 9, 2013.
Prosecutor Abdallah Issa Mgongo from the Director of Public Prosecutor (DPP)'s office told the court that specimens sent to the Chief Chemist in Dar es Salaam for analysis and investigation are yet to be returned.
The late Mushi was killed on February 17, this year, when he was driving to church at Kikweni area, to lead morning mass prayers.
