Simma Training Institute Holds Second Graduation Ceremony

Simma Vocational Training Institute / Women Resource Centre (SVTIWRC) recently held its second graduation ceremony at its premises in Bundung. Momodou L Jange, the principal of Taku Legaay Skill Training Centre, who was the guest speaker at the ceremony, revealed that there has been an active relationship between Simma and his institute since its inception.

He recalled that the founder of Simma, the late Satang Jobarteh, was a mentor to many women in the community. He reminded the graduates that learning is a lifelong process, adding that enrolling in skills training centres doesn't mean one is incapable. Jange stressed that everyone cannot work in an office because the world is divided into parts, so people must work in different professions to be able to communicate and help each other in life, which he added cannot be received without discipline, dedication and hard work.

He congratulated the graduates for completing the three-year course and urged them to put their skills into good use. He also disclosed that plans are in the pipeline for skills training students to be enrolled for university programmes with the University of The Gambia.

Saikou Jarju, the principal of Simma, thanked the president of the Republic, Sheikh Professor Dr. Alhaji Yahya AJJ Jammeh, for creating a conducive environment for skills training institutes. He revealed that his school was able to provide scholarships for 40 needy students who cannot afford to pay their fees.

While urging the new graduates to continue the struggle by working hard, Jarju challenged employers to make best use of the skills that they acquired. Other speakers included the programme officer of Simma, Haddy Drammeh Ceesay and Foday Touray, the coordinator of Gambian Children First Foundation. Ramatoulie Barry, an employee of Trust Bank Limited Farafeni branch, gave the opening remarks. Certificates were also awarded to outstanding students and teachers.
