Principal Appeals for Funds to Complete School Toilet

The principal of the Junior Secondary School (JSS), Bako community in Kwali Area Council of the FCT, Mrs. Florence Okonkwo, on Tuesday appealed to the authorities of the council to assist the school with funds to complete the eight modern self-help toilet project at the school.

Okonkwo, who made the appeal at the 1st graduation/launching of the maiden edition of the school magazine, said work on the eight modern self-help toilet has been put on hold due to financial constraints.

She stated that the former chairman of the council, Mr. Joseph Shazin, during his visit to the school had pledged to assist the school with the sum of N250,000 for the completion of the self-help toilet project but was unable to redeem the pledged before leaving the office.

She also solicited for assistance in the provision of sports facilities to enable the school upgrade its football, volleyball and handball pitches, saying it will go a long way to help discover talents from the school.

"The school while waiting for when FCT UBEB will build a standard library is proposing to have a mini-library. This idea, if supported will help inculcate in the students reading culture needed for improved academic excellence," he said.

Also speaking, the chairman of the People's Democratic (PDP), in the FCT, Alhaji Yahaya Yunusa Suleiman, who was the chief launcher of school magazine, commended the management of the school for their effort in organizing the event and impacting knowledge in the students.

He called on parents and stakeholders in the education sector, especially traditional rulers to give support to the education of children especially the girl-child education so that they can contribute to the development of the society.

He launched some copies of the magazine with N500,000 and pledged to continue to assist the school where the need arises.

Highlights of the event include the launching of the school magazine tilted 'Bako-Light' and presentation of prizes/awards to best performing students and teachers at the school.
