Old members in the council include Higher and

Tertiary Education secretary Dr Washington Mbizvo, Mrs Jannie Makawa, Mr David Mutambara, Sister Bernadette Paradza, Mr Naran Keshav, Mr Tendai Chihaka and Mr Lysias Bowora. Other new faces include Mrs Fidelia Gandiya, economist Brains Muchemwa, Mrs Tabeth Kaziboni, Mr James Chitauro, Professor Auxilia Munodawafa, and Professor Caiphas Nziramasanga.

Zimbabwe Open University has recorded the highest number of enrolment of up to 17 000 students per annum. Speaking at a press conference in Harare yesterday, Acting Higher and Tertiary Education Minister Ignatius Chombo said council members demanded determination.

"This responsibility shall demand your determination. You are expected to critically interrogate issues as you execute your duties during the operations of the university," he said.

He urged council members to play the advisory role as guided by their parameters.

"You shall encounter hurdles that will demand you to think outside the box to provide solutions," said Minister Chombo.
