The weeklong celebration which was themed: "Private Universities; A Window of Hope for Nation Building," attracted dignitaries, who including the Deputy Volta Regional Minister, Mr. Francis Ganyaglo, and the Registrar of the All Nations University College at Koforidua, Dr. Lynn Kisembe Darkwah, and was well attended by students.
Addressing the students, Mr. Ganyaglo commended the student body of the EP University College for the mature manner the SRC went about its activities over the years, noting that it was a remarkable achievement that since the establishment of the private university in the region, there was no conflict between students and the management.
The Deputy Minister noted that the establishment of private universities had helped in the development of the human resource base of the country through tertiary education, which hitherto was the responsibility of only the state established universities, and commended the EP University management for its role in providing tertiary education for the increasing number of Senior High Schools (SHS) in the region.
Mr. Ganyaglo observed that students of private universities were important stakeholders who ought to contribute towards the development of their universities, because the achievements and good attributes of the universities would help the products of these universities to achieve their goal in life.
Dr. Kisembe Darkwah urged university students to take their lessons more seriously and make good use of their time, in order to derive maximum benefit while in school.
He stressed on the need for students to develop their confidence level to complement their activities in school.
Dr. Kisembe Darkwah reminded university students of their responsibility to render quality service to Ghana and Africa after the completion of their courses, which, she noted, they could effectively respond to only when they demonstrated a high level of competence in the various fields of discipline.
She called on alumni of universities in the country to contribute meaningfully towards the development of their Alma Mater, which was the major means universities the world over developed.
She added that it was time university graduates created jobs for themselves to give meaning to the skills and knowledge acquired, rather than joining unemployed associations.
The SRC President of the EP University College, Mr. Martin Kwame Sedem, disclosed that apart from the healthy relationship existing between the university management and the students, the high professional conduct of the lecturers had helped remarkably to achieve holistic education that prepared students both academically and morally
