As part of its corporate social responsibility, the management of Access Bank Plc in collaboration with the United Nations International Children's Education Fund (UNICEF) has donated two renovated classroom blocks to a primary school located in Maraban-Jos in Kaduna state.

Our correspondent gathered that the school which was commissioned last March after rehabilitation works funded by Access Bank and Fifth Chukker through the Access Bank/UNICEF Charity Shield polo tournament.

The school now has clean classroom blocks, toilets and games facilities all fenced against trespassers.

Speaking when he visited the renamed school (Adamu Atta Primary School) at the conclusion of the 2013 Access Bank UNICEF Charity Shield Polo Tournament, the Managing Director of Access Bank, Mr Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede who was in the company of the UNICEF Country Representative, Dr. Suomi Sakai, Alhaji Adamu Atta, as well as several Access Bank and UNICEF staff members observed that the school experienced unexpected surge in enrolment.

"The primary school is one of several life enhancing projects which showcases the transformational impact of visionary corporate social responsibility by Access Bank and Fifth Chukker whose collaboration with UNICEF as funding partners since 2006 has salvaged orphans and vulnerable children impacted by HIV/AIDS and lifted several Kaduna state communities in the areas of basic education, child protection, health and nutrition, water sanitation and hygiene.

"These communities now also have the resources and the know-how to protect these children from poverty and ignorance, two of the root causes of AIDS," Aig-Imoukhuede said.
