State Set to Upgrade 55 Community Colleges

THE government will build capacity for 55 Community Development Colleges in different districts across the country, to enable them provide vocational training.

The Deputy Minister for Educational and Vocational Training, Mr Phillip Mulugo, said for the 2012/13 financial year, 25 Community Development Colleges have started providing vocational training and each enrols 50 students.

The Deputy Minister was responding to a basic question from Mr Kaika Telele (Ngorongoro - CCM), who wanted to know when the government will implement its plan to have Vocational Training College (VETA), in every district in the country and when would Ngorongoro District get a vocational training college.

Mr Mulugo said Ngorongoro is among 50 districts that have not been evaluated to determine what kind of vocational college the district should get; however, the exercise will be conducted as soon as funds are available.

In the meantime, he advised the legislature and the public in Ngorongoro to use other VETA training colleges in Oljoro, Njiro and St Joseph V.T.C in Loliondo, Ngorongoro District, while the government is seeking funds to build one in the district.
