University Sharjah Department Of English Organises National Seminar For Translated Emirati Literature

With the presence of his excellency Dr. Humaid Majool Al Nuami, chancellor of the University of Sharjah. the department of English language and Literature organised a seminar by the name " National seminar for translated Emirati literature" with the participation of a group of elite writers and intellectuals in the field of translated Emirati literature.  and with the presence of well known writer and intellectual, His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Saoud Al Qasimi. His excellency Abdulrahman bin Ali Al Jarwan, advisor at the Diwan Al Amiri.

 Her excellency Khawla Abdulrahman Al Mullah, President of the Legislative Council of the Emirate of Sharjah. His excellency Saeed Musabih Al Kaabi, Chairman of the board of Sharjah Education.

The seminar headed by Dr. Ghanim Al Samrai, Head of English language and Literature department, Adressed ways and methods of translating the Emirati literature into a more lively language and to clarify the obstacles and challenges faced in publishing these literatures and it can be fused with international literature.

The work of Emirati writers have been translated to many languages but are usually done with individual efforts. And so, the participants stressed that the process of translation needs methodology, organising, accuracy and comprehensiveness in order that the translation of Emirati literation is transmitted from local to international to introduce the reading public to the cultural Emirati achievements and literary and poetic output and folklore in the Emirates while retaining its outstanding individual features.

And one of the most prominent topics addressed, Emirati Literature "Prospects and Challenges", and Emirati literature and global prospect. The seminar also addressed the experience of translators who worked on translated the Emirati literature besides the contribution of the department of English Language with the translation of the Emirati literature.

The Seminar permeated to review the work of higher study students of the department in translating the Emirati literature.

Student Amna Jum'aa Ahmad presented a brief on her letter " Emirati folktale", while Mahfoutha Abdullah Saleh reviewed her experience with preparing her letter "Translated: Collection of short stories, Roses breath"

The seminar came up with many recommendations and proposals that will be reviewed and implemented.
