Wireless Technologies Symposium
American University of Sharjah (AUS) opened the first Microwaves and Wireless Technologies Symposium on campus, today, April 10, 2016. The symposium covers state-of-the-art developments in the fields of microwaves and wireless technologies. The theme of this event is "5G and Internet of Things (IoT)."

Keynote speakers of the conference include Ayman Elnashar, Senior Director of Wireless Broadband & Terminal Technology, du, UAE; Professor Fadhel M. Ghannouchi, IEEE Fellow, Alberta Innovates/Canada Research Chair, Calgary University, Canada; Professor Ibrahim (Abe) M. Elfadel, SRC ACE4S Director, Masdar Institute, UAE; Professor Mérouane Debbah , IEEE Fellow Mathematical and Algorithmic Sciences Lab, Huawei, France; Mohamed Elsaidny, Senior Regional Manager, MediaTek Inc., UAE; Dr. Mohamed El-Tarhuni, Associate Dean and Director of College of Engineering Graduate Programs, AUS; and Reiner Stuhlfauth, Technology Marketing Manager, Rohde & Schwarz, Germany.

In his opening address, Dr. Hany El-Kadi, Interim Vice Provost for Undergraduate Affairs and Instruction and Associate Dean in the College of Engineering (CEN) at AUS, briefed the audience on the growth and development of the university, providing them with information on the programs offered as well as the growing number of students joining the College of Engineering.

Dr. El-Kadi also expressed his gratitude to the organizers of the symposium from the Department of Electrical Engineering for their hard work in making the event a success. They include Dr. Lutfi Albasha, Dr. Nasser Qaddoumi, Dr. Oualid Hammi, and other members of the department.

The two-day symposium will discuss a wide variety of topics, some of which include: 5G from Research to Standardization, 5G and IoT Evolution and Roadmap, 5G Goals: Enabling Technologies and Challenges, 5G and the Technology Framework to Achieve That, In-device Coexistence Aspects, the IoT Rush, IoT Technology Overview, and more.
