Higher Colleges of Technology CIS Students Attend Forensics Workshop at Dubai Police HQ

Level-6 Computer Information Science (CIS) security students at the HCT-Sharjah Women’s College (SWC) were given wonderful insights into forensics at work when they recently attended a workshop at the General Department of Forensic Science and Criminology at Dubai Police Headquarters.

The workshop was delivered by Criminal Forensics Consultant, Eng. Shaima AlMazrouei who highlighted the importance of protecting information technology, especially in social media networks, against cyber-attacks.

Eng. AlMazrouei also discussed recent examples of local and global e-crimes and the students were introduced to different types of criminal cases, challenges and difficulties of analyzing e-crimes and ways to deal with them.

In addition, Eng. AlMazrouei introduced the students to the systematic investigation methods used in Dubai Police investigations, as well as the methods used to recover critical data and to aid authorities in tracking those who cause security breaches.She also explored the evidence chain of custody methods, and forensic investigation methods used to deal with different types of digital evidence using different hardware and software forensics tool kits for investigation and data analysis.

The students were also introduced to various sections of the Digital Forensics Department, including Computer Forensics, Mobile Forensics, Malware & Software forensics, Network Forensics, Audio Forensics and Video Forensics.

“We had a great change to be introduced to several security and forensic tools and assessments which are used in digital forensics investigations at Dubai Police Digital Criminal Department. This encourages me to do my capstone project in forensics area,” student Munaira Saeed said.

Student Maitha Al Kaabi, commented that “these workshops were extremely helpful as it gave us the necessary knowledge and ideas needed for our coursework project”.

Fatima Sallal said that “the trip was very helpful, as it provided me with the opportunity to link between the theoretical concepts taught in the classroom with the real world environment”.

“We thank Mr. Aart and Ms. Nedaa for supporting us and giving a chance to visit a real environment and attend this important workshop, this encourages us to do more researches in forensics area and start publish our research papers in international conference in forensics and information security area,” said Sumaya Al Hammadi.

This trip was supervised by CIS faculty Ms. Nedaa Al Barghuthi and CIS staff Mrs. Nina Fernandez.
