Renowned Graphic Designer Philippe Apeloig
American University of Sharjah (AUS) hosted a lecture by noted French graphic designer, Philippe Apeloig, on campus, yesterday, April 13, 2016. The lecture is organized by the AUS College of Architecture, Art and Design (CAAD) with the support of Abu Dhabi Music and Arts Foundation and Abu Dhabi Festival.

The renowned graphic designer focused on a selection of his work designed over the past 20 years. The work presented included posters, logotypes, and experimental typographic animations including the 2013 Louvre Abu Dhabi logo.

He explained his creative process by sharing a series of preliminary sketches and artistic references that lead to the final design. The lecture was attended by students, faculty, and professionals from across the UAE.

Apeloig spoke about the art of typography and the approach he takes when designing images with written words that are legible, readable and appealing when displayed. He also spoke about designing the logo for the new Louvre Abu Dhabi (LAD) museum.

Apeloig was born in Paris in 1962 and studied at the Ecole Superieure des Arts Appliques Duperre and the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Arts Decoratifs (ENSAD). He was hired as a graphic designer at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris in 1985 and in 1987, moved to Los Angeles to study and work with April Greiman. From 1993 to 1998, he also taught typography in Paris at ENSAD.
