Engineering students from the American University of Sharjah have travelled to Indonesia to take part in building and refurbishing social centres, homes and water networks.

The trip has been sponsored by the UAE's Road and Transport Authority (RTA) which is part of the university's Engineers without Borders initiative.

Moaza Al Marri, director of marketing & corporate communication, corporate administrative support services sector, RTA, said: “The support accorded by the RTA to this initiative is line with its social responsibility and the public interest.

Such a support is intended to raise the value of philanthropic activities in the conscience of the rising generations and embed the sense of responsibility amongst university students who will steer the future development drive in our beloved country."

Engineer Toqa Khalid, head of Engineers without Borders program at the American University of Sharjah, said: "Such a support underscores RTA’s responsibility towards various community spectrums, specially students, and is bound to have a positive impact in honing the skills of participants, boosting their sense of responsibility, and nurturing the volunteering culture in their hearts."
