NUGS Rescinds Decision To Sue Government Over GETFund

The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has suspended its decision to go to court over GETFund issues after a meeting with the National Youth Authority (NYA).

NUGS had threatened to drag government to court over what it says is the poor management of the GETFund.

The National Youth Authority subsequently met NUGS to resolve issues raised over GETFund and other matters.

The Coordinator of the NYA then requested NUGS to give the Authority sometime to they try an out of court settlement.

President of NUGS, Samuel Darkwa Bimfoh in an interview with Citi News narrated that “the coordinator asked us to sit again and asked us to hold on for him to intervene between now and Friday.”

According to him, the Friday June 14, 2014 deadline given them by the NYA is “too much” but he expressed their readiness to wait.

Meanwhile, the NYA has pledged its commitment to help solve the challenges being faced by the student bodies.

Deputy National Coordinator of the NYA, Prince-Derrick Adjei said: “I can confidently say that whatever commitment they have made they are willing to go by them and we also on our part are willing to ensure that government engages more not only with the students in resolving their issues but also with the underlying factors in terms of grievances that have been put forward.”
