KNUST, Huawei Technologies signs MoU To Enhance Students Engineering Skills

Professor Ellis for KNUST and Mr. Lan Yang for HTG
Huawei Technologies Ghana (HTG) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). The MoU establishes a long- term collaboration to enhance training of KNUST students and provide engineering skills through industrial internship, collaborative research, development of technologies in communication networks, departmental sponsorships and provision of equipment to support academic work.

In his speech, Lan Yang, Deputy Managing Director for the company, expressed his appreciation for the agreement and hoped that in the future their company would provide soft value service to the University. He explained that HTG in the past had collaborated with KNUST to build an ICT Larboratory which currently employed about eighty percent (80%) of the engineers from KNUST.

He added that HTG had recognised the efforts of KNUST in fostering strong University- Industry relationship and would like to be part of this development to promote high standards in ICT related education and their integration in the industries. This partnership would roll out ICT related products including phones, modems, mifi, data centre as well as build and maintain a Network Architecture for the advancement of e-learning solutions.  This was a way of paying their quota to the institution which had been of immense assistance to their company.

Li Chinkui Geoffrey, Director- Public and Governmental Affairs Officer of the company also concluded that the vision of their company was to reach lives through communication and technology and believed this vision would be possible if they established a chair in the University to promote research work.

Dr. Osei, Vice Dean of the Institute of Distance Learning (IDL) showed his gratitude and praised the Huawei team for the agreement. He mentionned that IDL was transforming from the print learning to the electronic learning (e- learning system) and therefore this partnership was a sure way to achieving their goal.

Professor Ellis signed the agreement for KNUST and Mr. Lan Yang for HTG.
