In a discussion, the President of DSU noted that their presence in KNUST was for educational purposes. He believed that it was significant for their students to visit KNUST for exchange programmes to help expand their minds and their vision of the world. Again, Dr. Williams disclosed that DSU which was established in 1890 with Agriculture as the main focus was ready to share ideas with and learn from KNUST. He stated that DSU ran twenty-five (25) undergraduate programmes, thirty-two (32) postgraduate programmes and four (4) Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programmes. He explained that the presence of Dr. Devona Williams, a member of the Board of Trustees of DSU, clearly indicated their commitment to the partnership.
Professor William Otoo Ellis, Vice-Chancellor, said KNUST, as an academic institution was about sixty-two (62) years old and for that matter there was a lot to learn from DSU. He said KNUST was looking forward to joint research works and proposals with DSU. Again, he anticipated that the collaboration would pave the way for staff of KNUST to visit DSU to learn from their system of institutional management.
The Vice-Chancellor noted that the ongoing project between BIRD and DSU already served as an initial link for their relationship. Moreover, he disclosed that KNUST had international relations with other institutions in America and one of such institutions was the Savanna State University. He was hopeful that the MoU would be a trigger for a happy relationship.
The Director of BIRD, Dr. Paul Sarfo Mensah said KNUST was a renowned University in Africa pioneering research and rural development and BIRD was at the forefront as a fully committed research centre in championing that goal.
