Members of the local chapter of Takoradi Polytechnic have declared a strike following government's inability to pay them their book and research allowance for the 2013/2014 academic year which ends in May.
Speaking at a news conference in Takoradi, the chairman of the T-Poly POTAG local chapter, Michael Appiah, said it is in line with the national strike declared by their national body outlining a litany of instances where government has exhibited feet dragging to meet their demands.
He said it is co-incidental that the strike is taking place on the first day of the start of end of semester examinations and stated further that the strike will involve invigilators withdrawing as well as non-marking of scripts until their grievances are addressed.
The Registrar, Sylvia Oppong Mensah said based on the decision by the local chapter of T-Poly POTAG, management will soon meet to review the situation to see if it will be prudent to go ahead with the examinations or put it on hold.
