Final Year Students Of Amaniampong SHS Threaten Violence After WASSCE

About 400 final year students of the Amaniampong Senior High school at Asante Mampong in the Ashanti Region are threatening to unleash a wand of protests against school authorities after writing their last paper of the West African Senior School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE) on Thursday.

The students say they are unhappy with a fee of GHC 12.50 being surcharged every final year student without which the school authorities will not append their signatures to their clearance forms.

One student who disclosed their intentions to ultimate radio on condition of anonymity said they feel shortchanged by the school authorities as these charges have neither been sanctioned nor approved by the Parent Teacher Association.

“They are collecting GHC 12.5 for clearance form but we don’t know the reasons why and who is receiving these monies but when you go to the administration to take your form, the bursar only says you have to pay the money before you get the clearance form,” he stated.

The student added that his personal checks with his colleagues from other schools suggest that Amaniampong SHS is the only school being subjected to these charges.

He told ultimate radio, “We don’t agree with them because the money is too huge for just a half sheet of paper and currently 400 students are going on a demonstration on Thursday.”

However the head master of the School Fredrick Addei who refused to speak on record said he was surprised at the decision of the students. He contends the fee was instituted by the Student’s Representative Council (SRC) but not the school administration and has been in existence since eight years ago.
