OVER 36,000 teachers who graduated from various universities in the country in 2013 will be employed by local government authorities by April this year.
Of the total number, 17 928 teachers were awarded certificates and will be hired to teach in primary school while 18,093 teachers will teach secondary level. Of the teachers, 5 416 have diplomas while 12 677 hold bachelor's degrees.
"The list of the new employed teachers which will also indicate different councils that they are appointed to serve will be published on the website of TAMISEMI from the Prime Minister's Office or the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training on the 15th of March, 2014," said Mr Jumanne Sagini, who is the Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister's Office (Regional Administration and Local Government).
"All the newly appointed teachers are supposed to report to their respective councils by 1st of April, 2014, so that they start work immediately," said Mr Sagini.
He emphasized that teachers are supposed to report timeously at their given work places so that their employers can arrange for the payment of their salaries starting from April, this year.
The idea of doing this early is to avoid the accumulation of salaries that normally happen to new employees; any teacher who reports after the 10th of April this year, with no valid reason will lose the chance of being employed, added Mr Sagini.
He added that money for transport and to facilitate the first week of their stay which is to be given to every teacher who reports to respective posts according to levels set by the government, has already been sent to the councils.
"Every teacher is to report to his or her respective assigned post; the Prime Minister's Office TAMISEMI is not responsible for making any changes of shifting the appointed posts for the new teachers, except from following normal procedures of changing the posts after the teacher qualifies to shift," he continued.
