National Teachers Association of Liberia Designing Plans for Quality Teachers

The National Teachers Association of Liberia (NTAL) is working on plans geared towards improving the capacity of teachers in the country, an official of the organization has disclosed.

NTAL President, Ellen Fartu Varfley, said the plan will include training teachers in educational psychology, teaching methodology and content development, to improve their performance in the classroom.

She told the Liberia News Agency Wednesday that the plans would also cover ways to improve the welfare of teachers in the country, adding, "Without teachers, the educational sector of Liberia will suffer serious setbacks."

Meanwhile, Madam Varfley is encouraging teachers to catalogue their credentials and other important documents, in order to regularize their status when they meet the Education Ministry Verification Team.

She said when that is done, it will reduce the difficulty in the payment of their salaries and also put the Association in the position to adequately advocate for improvement in salaries and basic incentives for them.

She also called on teachers to properly channel their grievances by first complaining to the District Education Officers and then climb up the leadership ladder.
