He, meanwhile noted that the challenge of unemployment was not only peculiar in Nigeria, but all over the world, saying "many leaders in Europe are losing out due to unemployment. What we saw last week Saturday is a big challenge, but we are doing a lot to ensure that there is employment, even the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC is also doing a lot and at the end of the day you will be gainfully employment."
Uduaghan also said the state government had approved the disbursement of N600 million for payment of bursary and scholarship to students of the state origin in tertiary institutions across the country.
He spoke while commissioning the 174-room hostel with 696 bed space built by NDDC at the University of Benin, UNIBEN. He reiterated his commitment to sponsoring first class graduates from the state to foreign universities of their choice.
Uduaghan also restated his support for President Goodluck Jonathan's determination to tackle unemployment problem among graduates.
Addressing the students, Uduaghan commended the NDDC for embarking on the hostel projects, which according to him, will help solve the accommodation problem encountered by students, adding: "I want you to know that government is doing everything possible to ensure that when you graduate, you don't gather at stadia in search of jobs. In Delta State, we built stadia not for job, but for sports and that is why we are looking beyond oil."
Speaking earlier, the Managing Director of NDDC, Mr Bassey Dan Abia, explained that the hostel was one of the 19 university hostel projects the commission had embarked upon across the nine states of the Niger Delta, adding that the hostel will go a long way to address accommodation problem in the institutions.
