GES and Assembly to Improve Standard of Education

The Offinso North District Assembly and the Ghana Education Service have put in plans to revamp the District Education to raise the fallen standards of education in the area.

The Acting District Director of Education, Mr. Andrew Owusu Ansah announced this at the celebration of Ghana's 57th anniversary parade at Akumadan, the Offinso North District capital.

He said the District Assembly and the Ghana Education Service would intensify efforts to ensure that teacher absenteeism in schools are minimized or completely eradicated. He said as part as efforts, workshops, fora, town hall meetings were organized and measures put in place to improve Management Supervision, Monitoring and Accountability in schools on the issue of improving education in the district.

Mr Owusu Ansah said the fallen standards of education in the area have seriously affected the district performance in 2013 by recording forty-nine (49) per cent as against sixty (60) per cent in 2012 and called for united front to avert the situation.

He announced that the directorate has received about 140 bicycles from Ghana partnership for Education Grant (GPEG) out of which, 76 have been distributed to some of the beneficiaries, who are needy school children but walk long distance to school.

Mr Owusu Ansah noted that as the directorate was doing its best to improve on the situation, it behoove on parents and teachers to continue to work hard to ensure that the efforts of the directorate were not in vain and assured the people that, the District Education Service would lived up to its promises to improve on the standards of education in the district.

He commended teachers for their efforts in working hard to restore standard of education despite the numerous challenges and appealed to them to maintain the standard in the years ahead. Mr. Owusu Ansah also appealed to parents of the beneficiaries to maintain the bicycles in order to expand their life span.
