Now fewer than 45 companies have participated in the American University of Nigeria (AUN)'s career fair organised for the institution's alumni.

The fair, which was organised by the AUN to familiarise its graduates with various companies, was held on Tuesday at Shehu Musa Yar'adua Centre Abuja.

Speaking at the occasion, the institution's Associate Dean of Students and Director Residential Programmes, Mr. Bello Abdullahi Olayola, said the fair was aimed at exposing the graduates of the university to the various employers so that they can be employed.

"The institution is planning a bigger fair where more government and private establishments will be invited to associate with our graduates for possible employment. This is our fourth time of organising this kind of fair and so far many of our graduates have secured jobs through the fair.

"We will love to widen the scope of the fair so that graduates of other universities in the country can also participate and secure jobs from the participating companies," he said.

An alumnus of the American University of Nigeria, Abubakar Auta Abubakar, who spoke to Daily Trust, said he attended the fair in order to get a job.

"I came for a job because I am about to finish my one year compulsory national service (NYSC) and after that I will start looking for a job. So far, I have spoken to three companies; two have invited me for aptitude tests this week and the other company in June," he said.

Abubakar described the fair as an opportunity for them to secure jobs from various companies of their choice, saying "this is an opportunity for us to meet with various companies so that we can choose the one relevant to our discipline."

Mr. Olukayode Alale, a Human Resource Manager of the Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC), one of the companies that participated in the fair, said it was part of the company's social responsibility to expose the company to the younger generation, saying "many students have indicated their interest to work with the company; we will soon invite them for test."
