The GIMPA SRC-Alumni Complex to be constructed on the Greenhill campus of the school, was unveiled at the first ever GIMPA Alumni Homecoming event, held on Friday, November 29. The presentation was through a sophisticated 3D projection that displayed the building and its facilities.
Expected to be constructed within a 24 month period, depending on the financial arrangement, the two storey structure has a swimming pool, a tennis court, a gymnasium, snack bar, a common room and an Assembly Hall. The first floor has offices of the Executives of both the SRC and the Alumni and board rooms, whilst the second floor will accommodate officials.
During the presentation, the SRC President, Mr. Benjamin Essuman announced the commencement of efforts towards raising funds to start the project. He indicated that funds will be sourced from the Students of GIMPA, the alumni and friends of GIMPA and Corporate Ghana.
Mr. Essuman was optimistic that the construction of the building will start in 2014, as work towards realization of funds will start and be intensified during the Christmas and New Year period.
“This yuletide is not going be for us to relax and party but to roll up our sleeves, pull up our socks and knock doors for assistance towards this project,” he added.
Students of GIMPA who were pleasantly surprised at their “new home” were left to discuss and take pleasure in the day the Complex will be completed and opened for usage.
Granting interview to the press at the same function, the Projects and Program Officer of the SRC, Mr. Larry Massawud explained that the building is coming on as a result of an arrangement that the SRC had has with the authorities of the school for the release of a land, at a strategic location, for the project. He added that the building will be constructed in line with the land use plan of the institute and that the students of GIMPA and the alumni stand to benefit immensely.
Larry dropped hints to the effect that GIMPA students and alumni will not be charged for using the facilities of the Complex, however individual members of the public and the organizations will have to register and pay subscription fees.
“Can you imagine GIMPA students and our alumni having their wedding receptions, anniversaries and birthday parties in the designed building you have just seen”, Larry quizzed.
He continued: “We are on track to creating the GIMPA Community, we deserve”
