University Student Attempt Suicide After He Was Jilted By Girlfriend

A student from Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University yesterday attempted to commit suicide after he was jilted by his girlfriend.

Bondo community policing committee chair Juma Abuko said the student had yesterday threatened his girlfriend, a college mate in early 20s, that he would take his life over a disagreement they had the previous day.

He said the student's lover then threatened to end their relationship. She later received a call from her boyfriend directing her to go to a bush at Bar-Central village about and one and a half kilometre from the campus. On arriving, she found him on top of a tree with a rope and raised an alarm.

Evans Ogutu, who was clearing his farm at the time of the incident, rushed to the scene and then called some more residents. They snatched the rope from him and alerted the chief of Bondo township location Maurice Aringo.

The male student and his girlfriend were taken to the office of Bondo assistant county commissioner Samson Akach for counseling before they were handed over to the university administration.
