The Polytechnic Teachers’ Association of Ghana (POTAG) Kumasi branch, has issued an end of October deadline to government to pay its members their arrears of the market premium following their migration onto the Single Spine Salary Structure.
According to the association, although the last batch of the Market Premium arrears (for the last quarter of 2012) was supposed to have been paid in September 2013, it has not reflected in their accounts.
Below is the full statement from POTAG
PAYMENT OF ARREARS ON 2012 MARKET PREMIUM
POTAG Kumasi wishes to express its displeasure at the non-payment of its Market Premium arrears for the last quarter of 2012, scheduled for September 2013.
It will be recalled that in the schedule for the payment of the 2012 market premium arrears, the last payment was supposed to be made in September 2013.
The said letter for the schedule of payment of market premium arrears for 2012, was dated 12 April 2013, signed by the Minister of Finance and addressed to the Controller and Accountant General to effect payments as agreed by various labour unions.
The last batch of the Market Premium arrears (for the last quarter of 2012) was supposed to have been paid in September 2013, surprisingly it did not reflect in members accounts.
No reasons have been given by the Controller and Accountant General’s Department as to why the arrears failed to come.
Members of POTAG Kumasi are not happy by this development, and urges the Government to;
1. Explain why it failed to make payment as agreed
2. Put in place measures to effect payment by the end of October 2013.
Failure to pay up will leave POTAG –Kumasi with very few options.
Thank you.
