As part of plan to empower citizens of Montserrado County District #15, a school founded and operated by Representative Adolph Lawrence has climaxed its second graduation exercises.
The Nyonwiah Skills Training Center (NSTC) in Caldwell New Georgia, was a colorful scene when 44 female received certificates of proficiency in three disciplines- cosmetology/beauty care, tailoring and catering.
The keynote speaker, Attorney Medina Wesseh lauded the Montserrado County lawmakers for such an initiative in preparing young women to take advantage of the opportunity to ably respond to unfolding challenges.
She urged the graduates to make best use of the knowledge acquired during the period to serve as role models in their various communities and the greater Liberian society.
Atty. Wesseh noted that with such output, the graduates are in the better position to win fabulous contracts in order to provide support for their individual families.
"If you can put into use what you have acquired here today, it will not only help you to be independent, but will prepare you to adequately respond to the many challenges out there", she said.
Madam Wesseh volunteered her service to work along with the graduates, especially when the need arises to write proposals to access loan for a startup venture in order to repay.
She revealed that the proposals will capture the loan repayment for a period of six months as to motivate the financial institutions to extend credit facilities to the next graduating students.
"There is more money out there, but you have to work harder to access it by putting into use the knowledge acquired from the vocational school," she said.
For her part, the National Coordinator of United Nations/Government of Liberia Joint Program on Gender Equality and Women Economic Empowerment (JPGEWEE) Naomi Saydee added that her department will work along with Madam Wesseh to write project proposal for the graduates.
According to her, the school will be included in the 2nd face of the project at the Ministry of Gender and Development in order to have the women of District #15 empowered.
In a comment, the wife of Representative Adolph Lawrence, Grand Bassa County Senator Nyonblee K. Lawrence revealed that the NSTC started after the 2011 campaign in the district.
"The intervention was triggered by calls from women in the district who never had the opportunity to learn. I noticed that the women were willing to learn, but never had the opportunity. The call from the women inspired me so much and it of course led to establish such a school in the area," she said.
Senator Lawrence said what the graduates learnt from the institution may not reflect on them, but their children and called on them to take the acquired skills very seriously.
