Federation of Universities Senior Staff Associations of Ghana |
It will be recalled that FUSSAG embarked on an industrial strike on 19th August, 2013 to press home demands for Market Premium, Excessive Exposure to Health Hazards Allowance, Special Allowance and Electricity Subsidy.
The resumption of discussions of the grievances with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), and the assurance given by the Vice Chancellors Ghana to facilitate the resolution of the impasse constitute the prime reasons for the decision to suspend the strike. The suspension of the strike is a demonstration of our commitment to dialogue in addressing our legitimate concerns.
The Vice Chancellors Ghana (VCG) has demonstrated commitment to play a leading role in the discussions of the issues with the FWSC. The VCG has made several appeals to FUSSAG to suspend the strike.
Their role to facilitate the resolution is therefore predicated on the suspension of the strike. We therefore deem it prudent to accord them respect, dignity and count on their trust in facilitating the resolution of the matter.
The indispensable services of all senior staff who constitute the middle level manpower are therefore restored from Monday, 30th September, 2013 to Monday 28th October, 2013.
We would like to reiterate the point that if the grievances are not adequately addressed before the expiration of the four-week period, FUSSAG will reactivate the strike on 29th October, 2013.
We hereby appeal to the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), the Government, the Vice Chancellors Ghana (VCG) and all stakeholders concerned to take the necessary steps to ensure the resolution of the impasse within the period.
We hereby give assurance of our readiness and willingness to co-operate in the resolution of the grievances.
Signed
Jacob Emmanuel Eshun
(General Secretary)
