National Parent Teacher Association of Nigeria have demanded that federal government and university lecturers publish "hidden truths" about the 2009 agreement at the heart of a widespread strike that's entered its 114th day today.
"We are left with accusations," said NAPTAN president Haruna Danjuma after the association's executive council met last week in Abuja.
"Parents are accusing ASUU (Academic Staff Union of Universities) for sending away our children [from school] and accusing the government for being carefree with the lives and future of our children.
"We want the two bodies to tell us the hidden truth of what was agreed in 2009. The parents are suffering. The students are suffering as well."
Danjuma was near tears and his voice broke as he narrated how the strike had turned "disastrous" from young people denied the classroom.
"As we earlier took it, [we thought the strike] was something that wouldn't take up to a week," he noted.
"But we find that our children have been with us at home for four months, which is very disastrous. Federal government and ASUU should be serious with the future of our children and come back to [negotiations]."
