32 Years Old Yifah Simon Jude Awarded 2013 National Best Teacher

The 32 years old teacher of Nana Amoako Model school in Wassa Daaman in the Western Region wins a three-bedroom house valued at Ghc 65,000, a laptop and a set of computers.

The award ceremony was the high point of the World Teachers’ Day Celebration and the 19th edition of the National Best Teacher Award and was held at the Jubilee park in Upper West Regional capital Wa.

In attendance was the Vice-President Paa Kwesi Amissah Arthur and Minister of Education Professor Naaana Jane Opoku Agyemang.

Simon Jude’s citation recognised his contribution to the development of sports in his district and his tenacity to finish whatever he starts.

Born in Nanadom in the Upper West, Simon Jude dedicated the award to his family and thanked them for their support.

1st Runner-Up Yahya Tia is a teacher at Tamale Presby Junior High School. His citation notes the consistency with which at least 60% of his students made grade A in Geography. It added that although he lived 15km away from his school, he was often the first to report at work.

He wins a saloon car, a laptop and a computer for his school.

Mariama Antwi Agyei was adjudged 2nd runner-up and also gets a saloon car, a laptop and a set of computers for her school. She is the head of primary department of the Ashanti School for the Deaf.

The Vice president drove the 1st and 2nd runner-ups - a traditional feature at these awards.

Many other teachers from Primary to Secondary school levels of education were recognised with home appliances.
