High student mobility attracts top universities to Accra

QS World Grad School Tour 2013 Accra Ghana
Latest findings from a UNESCO report indicate that sub-Saharan Africa students represented 7.5 per cent of the total number of mobile students in the world. With a large potential market of bright students in the region, leading universities from Europe, Australia, South Africa and other places have signed up to meet students face to face at the QS World Graduate School Tour in Africa.

The tour is the world’s leading student recruitment event for graduate programmes, visiting over 70 cities in 2012. QS has visited the region earlier this year for its business education events. This time the event organisers are bringing universities targeting Master’s and PhD students.

Peter MacDonald, director of the QS tours, says, “At the moment, the region is lacking the capacity to cope with increasing higher education needs. With very few world-class universities in the region, those with the financial means are naturally going to look overseas. Universities recognise this and are keen on attracting the region’s brightest students to their campuses abroad.”

He continues that “This is the second time the tour is travelling to the region and universities are keen to provide financial support for the region’s students as well, which is why many are offering exclusive scholarships with us.”

Attendees of the QS World Grad School Tour who have met the participating schools’ criteria are eligible to apply for scholarship under the QS Education Trust, which currently has over $1.2 million in funding.

High initial registration numbers have been recorded for the event in Accra. Participants are encouraged to register at www.topuniversities.com/accra to attend the QS World Grad School Tour in Accra on September 26, 2013 from 3pm to 8pm at Moevenpick Ambassador Hotel.
