Yobe Scraps Attacked School, Relocates Students

Yobe state secondary school Attack
The Yobe state government says it will scrap the Government Secondary School Mamudo which was attacked last week and move its students to a new boarding school.

Education commissioner Mohammed Lamin said yesterday in Damaturu that Governor Ibrahim Gaidam will set up a committee to review secondary education in the state to ensure better protection for students and teachers.

The commissioner said the committee will look at how certain secondary schools in rural areas built by previous administrations will be merged and relocated to the new boarding schools built by the state government.

When merged, the schools will "be more easily protected and the students and teachers will have a more conducive teaching and learning environment," Lamin said. Also yesterday, Gaidam reiterated his call on the Defence Headquarters to consider restoring GSM services in the state.

Speaking in Damaturu when he received military officers on a visit over the Mamudo attack, the governor said people of the state are cooperating to divulge useful information to security agents but were being hampered by cut off of cell phone service.

He also urged security operatives to change their mode of operation in tackling the attacks in the state.

In his address, the Chief of Defence Staff, represented by Chief of Research and Development, Defence Headquarters, Major General Ariahu, assures Nigerians that the Army was committed towards ending security challenges facing the country
