Unesco Launches Phase 2 of Capacity Building for Education for All

United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in collaboration with Ministry of Labour on Thursday launched phase 2 of capacity building for education for all programme at Lilongwe technical College in Lilongwe.

Speaking at the launch, UNESCO's Director General, Irina Bokova said her organisation provides high quality education to young people in order to enhance development in the country.

"In times of great change and challenges across the world, young people need skills and opportunities to help in developing the world," Bokova said.

The Director further said the launch of the phase 2 of the capacity building would strengthen its governance with UNESCO's strategy to provide capacity development and skills to young people.

She pointed out Technical and Vocation as one way of providing societies with what they want in life to sustain key developments.

"Malawi is one of UNESCO's priorities among the countries which is achieving more remarkable results for better education by International Labour Organisation," stressed Bokova.

She also said the other duty of the organisation is to harmonise the curriculum in all levels of education to enhance capacity development for teachers in the country.

Bokova assured the country that her organisation will continue to accompany Government to fully implementation of quality education for both rural and urban young people which would help to connects skills development and job creation.

In her remarks, Deputy Secretary for Ministry of Labour, Bridget Muva said over 70 colleges in the country have been gaining in training of teachers and from 2008 to 2012 entrepreneurship have also been benefiting from UNESCO.

Mvula called for the organization to continue assisting colleges in the country to perform at its best in providing skills to young people.

She thanked the UNESCO Director General for launching yet another Phase to Lilongwe Technical College to help in capacity building.

UNESCO's strategic plan is to empower young Malawian people in becoming productive in all sectors of development including the jobless and focuses on young women.
