UNISA host world premiere of CREDO in honour of Madiba |
Presented in association with Pina Ya Thari, CREDO is a bold testament to the Freedom Charter; and a tribute to Madiba, ZK Matthews and the many other heroes of the struggle for freedom who met in Kliptown in 1955 to lay the foundation for South Africa’s democracy.
It is a ground-breaking, 67 minute long, multi-media stage performance created jointly by Bongani Ndodana-Breen (Music), Brent Meersman (Libretto) and Andrew Black (Multimedia). Produced by renowned radio personality Brenda Sisane and Shadrack Bokaba, it will be led by the multi-talented, soulful and dynamic Sibongile Khumalo, accompanied by Otto Maidi, Monika Wassung, the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra and Gauteng Choristers, conducted by Jonas Alber.
Unisa also seeks to recognise, through the CREDO oratorio, other veterans of our democracy such as our current Chancellor, retired Judge President Bernard Ngoepe, who were part of the team of jurists who drafted South Africa’s first democratic constitution, which was informed and influenced by many of the principles enshrined in the Freedom Charter.
The performance on the 18th, which is by invitation only, will be followed by two other performances on 19 and 21 July respectively. Details of these two shows are available at Computicket.
