'Uni-Abuja Medical School Ready for Take-Off'

The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) has said the College of Health Sciences of the University of Abuja is ready for take-off. Also, the Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital has been acquired by the university and renamed the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Abuja.

These were made known yesterday in Abuja when the council visited the university on verification exercise of the college. Medicine is the only programme of the three that were suspended by federal government still facing serious accreditation problems.

Medical students who have been in the university for eight years are still stuck at 300 level because the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria is yet to grant any form of accreditation to the university.

The team led by Prof F.C Akpuaka expressed satisfaction with the facilities and quality of academic staff put in place for the take-off the medical programme.

The team took an inspection tour of the facilities of the College of Health Sciences and later announced that the college will commence immediately the varsity is able to clear some outstanding issues.
