Airtel to Spend Sh150 Million On Secondary School Books
AIRTEL Tanzania yesterday selected 100 secondary schools across the country to participate to its programme Shule Yetu.

Speaking at a draw through which the schools were selected, Airtel Public Relations Manager Jackson Mmbando said for the past 11 consecutive years, the firm has played a great role in supporting the education sector through the programme.

"We acknowledge government efforts through the ministry of education to better education in the country," said Mr Mmbando Since the beginning of this project more than 950 Secondary schools have received books worth 1.6bn/- from Airtel Tanzania Education Authority's Deputy Director of Resource Mobilisation Sylvia Lupembe said the education sector still faces a myriad of challenges.

"We have so many challenges that hinder our academic performance, ranging from poor and inadequate facility to inadequate teaching aids," she said.

Currently, the book-student ratio in most secondary schools stands at one to five and the Shule Yetu project envisages to significantly changing the ratio to improve academic performance.
