UAE students compete to develop government services

A newly launched award unveiled by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR)

Under the patronage of Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the Ministry has launched the first Smart Applications Award.

“The award is meant to motivate students and encourage universities to offer a convenient scientific atmosphere for students to practice their knowledge and skills and create brilliant solutions in the area of smart phone applications,” said Dr Saeed Al Hassani, undersecretary of the Ministry.

The Ministry held awareness workshops to stimulate and encourage universities as well as student to develop their creative and innovative solutions in smart phone applications and ensure access to government services.

The award will recognise achievements in four categories, smart phone applications, outstanding website services, technical solutions via short message service, and creative applications.

“The Smart Applications Award is also intended to enhance the quality of education within the UAE’s different universities and to create a knowledge-based society,” he added.

The submitted applications will be evaluated based on their creativity, efficiency and ease of use.

Students enrolled at Khalifa University, UAE University and the Higher Colleges of Technology has announced their participation in the first award for 2013-2014.
