UAE medical research with Dh10m
Al Jalila Foundation has received Dh10 million from Amity University Dubai, helping the non-profit fund medical research in the UAE.

The agreement will help groom young scientists in the country and encourage collaborative research projects with international scientists.

The Amity University Research Centre will be established within the Foundation under the agreement.

The Amity University Dubai is part of the non-profit Amity group of international institutions with a presence in India, the US, UK, Mauritius, Romania, China and Singapore, among others. The educational institute has published over 5,000 studies.

Speaking to Gulf News, the CEO of the Foundation, Dr Abdul Kareem Sultan Al Olama, said that the grant will help fund a culture of research in the UAE.

“The support from Amity University will ensure that we continue to be innovative in health care through our research centres. We want to encourage more and more scientists to come forward,” said Dr Al Olama.

He explained that through the partnership, the Foundation will be able to accommodate more scientists as well as groom the younger generation of scientists.

“We need to teach them how to conduct research, the guidelines needed to write and then later publish their research. The new centre will have experts like epidemiologists and statisticians to help local research and ensure that it is at a par with international standards,” he said.

He added that the new facility will also promote collaborative research projects with international scientists. “We would like to see Emirati scientists collaborate with noted international scientists on research both for learning and exposure. The research centre will also help in networking.”

In a media statement, Raja Eisa Al Gurg, member of the Board of Trustees and Chairperson of the Board of Directors of Al Jalila Foundation, said: “We are immensely grateful to Amity University for this generous contribution as it will help to ensure parity between the scope of research in the UAE and those of the global leaders in the scientific field.”
