Nigeria Receives Award of Excellence in Education
Nigeria was recently given an award of excellence on education, leadership and learning at the World Education Congress held in Mumbai, India.

Receiving the award on behalf of the country, Minister of Education, Prof Ruqayyatu Ahmed Rufai, who led Nigeria's delegation, said the award has proved that the transformation agenda of the Federal Government was working.

Represented by the Director-General of the National Teachers' Institute (NTI), Dr Aminu Ladan Sharehu, the minister expressed satisfaction that Nigeria was improving in the educational sector.

Speaking on Open and Distance Education (ODE), Dr Sharehu informed the congress that "By using ODE, you can educate as many as possible; you need little resources; you need little infrastructure and facilities when you use Open and Distance mode of Education."

During the congress, 88 countries participated. The congress gives importance to teaching and learning for meaning in the globalized world and provides networking opportunities as well as creates an avenue for new approaches to important academic issues in the world's fast growing environment.

It also seeks to influence the evolving global culture of education with the objective of systematic change and aims at exposing participating countries to the latest education tools, technologies and solutions.
