Library gurus meet at Unisa for 2nd African Library Summit

2nd African Library Summit 2013
Several influential international librarians, academics and professionals converge on Unisa’s Muckleneuk Campus for the 2nd African Library Summit from 2–5 July 2013.

The three-day summit, hosted jointly by the Unisa Library and the International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA)’s Regional Office for Africa and the IFLA Africa Section, is held under the theme The horizon and beyond.

The main objective of the summit is to afford delegates the opportunity to engage on significant issues in support of quality library and information services and librarianship on the African continent, with a focus on issues such as leadership in African librarianship, innovation and sustainability in African libraries and the question of public and school libraries in Africa.

The keynote address was delivered by Dr Andrew Kaniki, the Executive Director for Knowledge Fields Development at the National Research Foundation (NRF). His topic is 21st century library information service (LIS) leadership: Emerging trends. Other key speakers during the summit include Jennefer Nicholson, the General Secretary of IFLA, Dr Victoria Okojie, Chairperson: IFLA Africa Section, and Prof Mandla Makhanya, the Principal and Vice-Chancellor of Unisa.
