Etisalat Nigeria Award 72 Students in Various Universities Scholarship

Etisalat Nigeria has said it is giving scholarships to students of tertiary institutions in order to increase numbers of telecoms experts in the country.

Speaking at the company’s merit award ceremony in Abuja, where 72 students from seven universities in the north were given N100,000 each, Etisalat’s CEO, Steven Evans, said the company’s scholarships to university students in engineering related courses would further boost the manpower in the telecommunications sector.

Represented by the company’s director in charge of Government and Regulatory Affairs, Ibrahim Dikko, Evans said Nigerian telecoms sector is robust and its needs highly skilled workforce.

He also promised that Etisalat would continue to give the required industrial attachment training to students who wish to major in telecoms related field.

The company’s director of Brands and Communication Enitan Denloye, who also spoke at the ceremony, said importance of education to the development of the country informed Etisalat’s decision to foot the bill of the students’ education.
According to him, the beneficiary students are those who have excelled academically in their various courses..

In his goodwill message, the Director General of National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP), Dr Umar Bindir, said students should be made to start thinking like entrepreneurs even before they leave the campus.

The seven beneficiary universities are: Bayero University Kano, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Usuman Dan Fodio University Sokoto, Abubakar Tafa Balewa University of Technology Bauchi, University of Abuja, Kebbi State University of Science and Technology, and Benue State University.
