12 Polytechnic Students, Trader, Paraded Over Cultism

Twelve students of the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti, and a trader have been arrested for allegedly belonging to a cult group, Eiye Confraternity.

Two of the students, according to the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Sotonye Wakama, were also fingered in a robbery that took place in the state capital recently.

Area Commander of Ado, Mr. Yomi Akinlaja, who paraded the suspects on behalf of the commissioner, said they were arrested during a meeting at a joint belonging to the trader following a tip-off.

"Twelve men and one female were arrested following a tip-off that members of the Eiye confraternity were meeting somewhere in Ado Ekiti. The principal suspect is Kolawole Oluwaseun," he said.

Other suspects are Femi Osho, 25, Damilola Omotiloye, 24, Olanrewaju Sunday, 22, Tunde Jimoh, 18, Asaolu Juliana, 50, Adekanye Sola, 23, Ogunmoroti Temitope, 22, Aluk Kehinde, 39, Omoniyi Richard, 22, Martins Chukwumezie, 20, Falaye Omobolanle, 21 and Ajayi Peter, 24.

Dangerous weapons allegedly recovered from the suspects after searching their homes included sledge hammer, a stainless steel knife, five cutlasses, one UTC axe, charms, red muffler, beret, shoes and blue beret, laptops, DVD tape and one small hammer. During an interview with the joint owner, Mrs Juliana Ashaolu, she denied being a member of the cult group.
