British Council, Microsoft
Donates 40 Digital Hubs to Boost E-Learning
The digital hubs which were donated to Ojota Senior Secondary School, Ojota and Oregun Senior High School, Oregun, Ikeja, were part of the corporate social responsibility of the council in Nigeria. Speaking at the joint commissioning ceremony of the facilities held at Oregun Senior High School, Country Manager, British Council, Mr. David Higgs, said the council decided to collaborate with Microsoft because of the latter's desire to promote education using modern ICT tools.

He said that the council had deployed 90 digital hubs in six countries across sub-Saharan Africa, stressing that as one of the largest economies in Africa, Nigeria cannot afford to delay the use of ICT for its educational development.

Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Education, Mrs. Omolara Erogbogbo, who commended the council for the initiative, said "the state government has provided about 110 schools with ICT laboratories with internet access, while an additional 100 schools have also been provided with e-tutors to ease teaching and learning process."

The Principal, Oregun Senior High School, Mrs. Folashade King, commended the British Council and Microsoft for the initiative, which she noted would deepen students' knowledge in ICT.
The British Council, in collaboration with Microsoft Nigeria, a global information technology firm, has donated 40 digital hubs to two public schools in Lagos to support e-learning in Nigeria.
