The aim of the competition is to provide engineering students with the opportunity to demonstrate their understanding and appreciation of ethical issues and responsibilities.
The students, faculty and staff members who were involved with the project were honored by the university in a ceremony that coincided with the university’s silver jubilee.
“Today upholds the spirit of “Joy of Achievement” which marked our silver jubilee celebrations coinciding with the commencement ceremony. AUST has excelled in its five domains of choice, education, research, training, expertise and practice and placed itself as one of the top institutions of higher education in the country,” said Osama Saeed Salman, Vice-President of AUST.
The AUST engineering students competed against ten teams from five major institutions in the UAE. Each team was provided with a case study that had to be analysed in light of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers’ (IEEE) Code of Ethics.
After analysing the case study the teams were required to make a presentation to a panel of judges from various non-participating institutions in the UAE.
The AUST winning team included Omar Majid Khalfan, Abdullah Shapshough and Abdul Khaliq Esmail. The team was supervised by Eng Tazeen Sharif and Prof Mustahsan Mir. The Head of Electrical Engineering Department and AUST IEEE Branch Counsellor, Prof Mir, also served as the Steering Committee Member for ESEC 2013.
