Abuja Football College Players Tasked On Education

Victorious students of the Abuja Football College have been tasked to pay attention to the attainment of education even as they vigorously pursue their careers in the game of football.

This charge was handed down to the players by the Chairman of the college, Captain Damir Miskovic who hosted them to a dinner in Abuja for winning the recently held international football tournament in Croatia.

The U-17 players in the football college attended the 61st International Invitational Tournament, Karanka Reveria in Croatia where they beat over 16 youth clubs from five countries around the globe to become the first African academy to lift the prestigious trophy.

The chairman of the college commended the players for being worthy ambassadors of Nigeria as he said the players showed exemplary behaviour throughout the championship.

Miskovic who is also the chairman of Croatia elite league club, HNK Rijeka and the vice- president of Croatia Football Association urged the players to build on the success recorded in youth tourney.

He asked them to pay serious attention to their education just as he disclosed the intention of the football college to help the players to effectively combine their football career with education.

"I want to congratulate you on the success you have just recorded. We are also so happy with the way you conducted yourselves throughout your stay in Croatia. You are indeed worthy ambassadors of Nigeria.

"I however want to urge you to pay serious attention to your education. You cannot play football forever. I also played football but had to stop when I got injured.

"We shall help you in your educational pursuit because if you can combine football with education, you will have a better future".

Miskovic also disclosed that 11 of the players that attended the championship in Croatia were spotted by scouts and are currently undergoing trials in the country.

He promised to give opportunity to Nigerian youths who are talented in football to realise their dreams by playing for the country and some of the top clubs in Europe.

The climax of the occasion was the announcement of undisclosed bonus for the players and officials of the victorious team.

" For winning the championship, I am going to show you our appreciation with a token in form of bonus for those of you who travelled and even those who could not make the trip", he disclosed amidst standing ovation from the players."
